Feast of the Ascension - 40th day after Easter.

In the presence of His Mother, Mary, and His apostles, Christ ascended into heaven. He entered into possession of the heavenly Kingdom, through His Passion and Death on the Cross.

Mass (Latin) in this feast - Thursday 17th May - will be at 8-00am. This is the only Mass in St. Mary's on this day.

Our Lady of Walsingham

On Tuesday 22nd May, there will be a Film and a brief talk on the History of The Walsingham Shrine. With the presence of the Ordinariate group in Ryde and the recent 950th anniversary of England's premier Marian shrine, this is an opportune time to reflect on the history of Walsingham. It was in October 2007 that the last parish pilgrimage to Walsingham took place with Fr. John Catlin. The film will take place immediately after the May Devotions (6-00pm) in the church.

Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.

On Sunday 3rd June there will be a parish barbecue in the church garden to celebrate this event.

Feast of Corpus Christi

Although, like Ascension Day, the English Hierarchy have transferred the Solemnity to the Sunday, it is still celebrated here in the parish at St. Mary's and at St. Cecilia's Abbey on the traditional day. On Thursday, 7th June, there will be a Latin Mass and Corpus Christi Procession in St. Mary's. Time to be decided. See the church newsletter.

Sung Latin Mass (Old Rite)

The next Sung Latin Mass will be on Sunday, 1st July; Feast of the Preious Blood; at 6-00pm in St. Mary's.

Consecration of churches.

The parish look forward to the centenary of the Consecration of Quarr Abbey which will be celebrated on 12th October this year; and also the 150th anniversary of the Consecration of St. Mary's in May 2013.

New Parish Hall

The new hall in the Presentation House (which was the old convent) is now in use. Tea / coffee is now served here on Sundays after the 11-00am Mass, and it is also now used by the children for their Sunday Liturgy classes and by the First Communion groups.

There are some restrictions on the use of the hall. To book this hall or the main parish hall, please telephone Anne Doran (01983 563061).

Mass changes

Please note the new weekday Mass schedule below. The Sunday Latin (Extraordinary Form) Mass changes to the First Sunday of the month at 6-00pm.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Confessions commence at 8-30am
Confessions will be heard from 5-20pm

There is weekday Mass at Quarr Abbey at 9-00am and at St. Cecilia’s Abbey at 9-30am. These Masses are at 10-00am on Solemnities.

These changes were made as a result of the questionnaire on Mass times to which 85 people responded. Very occasionally, Masses have to be cancelled at short notice. This is regretted, and a notice to this effect will be placed on the noticeboard when it is known.

Weekend Mass (fulfilling the Sunday Obligation) remain the same:

Sat. Vigil Mass at St. Mary’s at 6-00pm
Sunday at St. Mary’s at 7-45am, 9-15am (Ordinariate) and 11-00am
9-15am at St. Michael’s, Bembridge
Latin Mass at 6-00pm on the First Sunday of the month
